Scranton Home Insurance Policyholders: Prepare Your Pool Properly for Winter
According to the NY Times, “THE best thing about having a swimming pool in your backyard is that it's there whenever you want to use it. The worst thing is that it's still there even when you don't.” Take their advice and use these suggestions to keep your pool in its best condition this winter:
Clean the pool.
Dirt will remain and build up over the course of the winter and your pool will host bacteria if not cleaned properly. Remove all brush and leaves.
Balance the water.
Make sure the water is in perfect condition, with different levels of components within the ideal values
Prevent the algae.
Just as with your initial shock treatment: apply chlorination of shock and algaecide.
Turn off all equipment.
Not only the pump, but all equipment, such as timers, cleaners or heating systems.
Reduce the water level of the pool.
The aim is to make sure the water line is below the skimmer approximately 50 cm.
Empty the pipe.
Low temperatures are extremely harmful to plumbing in general. Frozen pipes will eventually cause them to break. Just as we suggest that Scranton home insurance policy winterize their homes to prevent frozen pipes, emptying your pool pipes can do the same!
Remove objects.
All floats and toys should be stored away from the pool for winter.
Cover the swimming pool.
There are special covers for the winter, more durable and long lasting. These will prevent the pool fills with trash and reduce the rise in water level due to rain.
Cleaning of equipment.
This is also a good opportunity to perform a cleaning or maintenance in great detail to the pump, motor and filter.
